乌波陀耶

有波弟 耶夜; 和尚 (or 和闍 or 和闇) (sa) upādhyāya, originally a subsidiary teacher of the (sa) vedāṅgas; later, through Central Asia, it became a term for a teacher of Buddhism, in distinction from 律師disciplinists and 禪師 intuitionalists, but as (zh) heshang it attained universal application to all masters.
